Arts Award

Curriculum Intent
Arts Award takes young people on a journey to arts achievement, through developing transferable
21st century skills and art form knowledge. These can include creative, critical thinking,
collaborations, leadership and entrepreneurial skills. It works with all types of creative activities,
form film-making to fashion design, poetry or even puppetry. The award embraces traditional and
emerging art forms, as well as support roles from backstage to administrative.
Taking part in creative activities has many emotional, physical and cognitive benefits. This is
especially useful in improving young people’s wellbeing.
Arts Award can contribute towards a recovery or a catch-up curriculum plan by providing structure
for arts programmes and measurable impacts.
Arts Award isn't about reaching a certain standard in a particular art form. Instead it assesses the
knowledge, understanding, creativity, communication and leadership skills young people develop
through exploring the arts as a participant, audience member and reviewer.
